The Cycle, 2021

<The Cycle> series explores the disruptive pattern generated by body dysmorphia and eating disorder. Each circular candy represents one step in the despairing mental and physical cycle caused by an internalized expectations, especially pressured by normalized Korean beauty standards. The dried flowers and candy accessories cover up the main conflict of that pertaining cycle process into something that is glamorized and idealized. Upon the first glance, the viewers are naturally drawn to the attractive aesthetic of the sugar pieces, unaware of the despairing realities that each body represents. 

I wanted to use the very substance that I feared the most putting into my own body. Through the process, I realized that I shared many similarities with sugar; how it can hold up its structure, yet even the slightest catalyst can cause it to completely fall apart.
