Chestnut Skin, 2021
Chestnuts always grow as a pair inside their shell, morphing into the other's shape.
But they're separated by a thin layer of skin in between.
<Chestnut Skin> explores the tension and intimacy present in close relationships. The vulnerability a person may feel in the another's presence may simultaneously conflict with their own personal desires and motivations. Emotional attachments becomes relayed in forms of guilt and selfishness, causing the navigation of the relationship to become even more complicated. This sculptural piece was created by the constant hammering, torching, and welding of a large, unyielding steel plate, which is representative of the effects that two people can have on one another.
