Neo-City Seoul

Beyond the overcrowded restaurant signages and piled up soju crates, Seoul, Korea is distinguished by the coexistence of its polar opposite cultural spheres: pre-war factories are rebranded into speakeasy bars, while tourists gather around the historic gates of Gwanghwamun just across the street.

Neo-City Seoul comprises of over 160+ individually 3D modeled, texturized, and rendered parts depicting the city's concurrent vintage and cyberpunk aesthetics. I wanted to challenge myself by designing an alleyway that can be reinvented through various atmospheric props and carefully curated lighting. Expansive research was put into the overall spatial layout of Korean streets and its complex array of outdoor components. I also looked into various pop cultural references to experiment with lighting designs for both the nostalgic daytime and fantastical nighttime scenes. Each individual part (from the blades inside radiator fans to individual telephone wires) went through multiple rounds of modeling and texturizing processes to ensure hyperrealistic representation.
